Notes From the Rep Biz, August 23, 2013 Agency Notes: No Resolution for Brewster: Agent Isabella Brewster has departed Resolution after only half a year. According to The Wrap, the exit is for personal reasons, not professional. Brewster was previously with CAA and then became a manager for a hot second before joining the fledgling Resolution, which has seen its client list grow to include the likes of David Duchovny, Mickey Rourke, Nick Cassavetes, Walt Becker, Naomi Campbell and, most recently, Paul Verhoeven. No word yet on where Brewster will land, or which, if any, of her clients will join her. At UTA: Actress Rosamund Pike has departed the agency, joining a list of Magnolia Entertainment clients who have left in recent months, such as Rachel McAdams and Swede superstars Joel Kinnaman and Noomi Rapace. It's unclear what spawned this feud between the two rep houses, but it's clearly still ongoing. At WME: Hootie and the Blowfish have parted ways with agent David Levine. Notes From the Rep Biz, Dec. 20, 2013 Story of the Year: Right at the wire, Ari Emanuel and Patrick Whitesell have come through with the story of 2013 (and probably 2014, as well). WME, along with private equity partner Silver Lake, has arranged to purchase international sports powerhouse IMG for a price reported to be between $2.2 and $2.5 billion. WME rival CAA has been very aggressive with its sports business over the past decade, and, in fact, took over some of IMG's key athlete representation divisions (notably the football division that represents such stars as Peyton Manning and Drew Brees). While the IMG acquisition could be seen as a move by WME to level the playing field in the sports arena, they are buying an IMG that has already begun the process of redefining itself. Still known for representing top golfers and tennis players, as well as models and TV hosts, IMG's greatest revenue comes from negotiating marketing deals for sports teams and venues, and packaging sporting events and then selling the TV rights. In effect, WME has done nothing to bite into CAA's player representation business--but they may have found a way to change the nature of the agency industry, by putting A-list talent together with global marketing reach, for good. Emanuel and Whitesell will serve as co-CEOs of the new company. We will have more as this story continues to develop in the new year.*Agency Notes: At CAA: Arrow star Stephen Amell has signed with Kevin Huvane. His manager is Michael Garnett at Leverage. William Petersen, former star of CSI, has signed with Chris Andrews after leaving WME earlier this month. Actor and crooner Tony Danza is now represented by a team that includes Jimmy Darmody and Matt DelPiano. He is managed by Dan Farah at Farah Films and Management. At WME: As many predicted, Blake Lively is now a client, signing with Elyse Scherz. Her manager is Justin Grey Stone at Management 360. This represents a very different look for Lively, who this time last year was with CAA and Untitled. Rising director Gary Shore has signed with Rich Cook. Management Notes Actress Lynn Collins has signed with Stephanie Simon at Untitled. Collins is overhauling her reps, having left both WME and longtime manager Nick Frenkel of 3 Arts. PR Notes Actress/musician Hilary Duff and actress Alexis Knapp (Pitch Perfect), as well as YouTube personality Bethany Mota, have all signed with PMK*BNC. Actors Stephanie Ellis (The Sleepwalker), Nicky Whelan (Left Behind) and Chyna Layne (We Are Family) are new signs for Platform PR. HAVE A WONDERFUL HOLIDAY SEASON AND A HAPPY 2014! *Includes information from Variety and Deadline Hollywood.

Notes From the Rep Biz, Jan. 24, 2014 Agency Notes At UTA: UTA has been very busy in 2014. After landing former WME partner Brian Swardstrom, as well as WME agent Danie Streisand, UTA has acquired the entirety of broadcasting specialty agency NS Bienstock. This is a major get for UTA, who now count Anderson Cooper, Bill O'Reilly, Megyn Kelly and a host of non-scripted producers as clients. NS Bienstock will retain its name, NY offices and principal leadership for now. Speaking of Swardstrom, the majority of his top-tier clients followed him over to UTA (Edward Norton, Jessica Lange, Frances McDormand, to name a few) and now he's lured another former WME client to UTA, Michael Douglas. The Oscar-winning actor and producer cleaned up this awards season for his work in Behind the Candelabra. Douglas is not the only Oscar winner to land at UTA in recent weeks: Susan Sarandon parted ways with longtime agency ICM Partners, and is now represented by Shain Rosenzweig. As for up-and-comers, Theresa Peters has signed young actor Josh Wiggins, who is also a new sign for Loch Powell at Leverage Management. At CAA: Another Oscar-winning actress, Goldie Hawn, has changed agencies, going from WME to CAA, where her point will be Fred Specktor. She is managed by former CAA agent Rick Nicita. Writer/directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (Crazy, Stupid, Love) have signed with Richrd Lovett. Castle star Nathan Fillion is now with Tracy Brennan. He was formerly with UTA. America Ferrera has moved on from ICM Partners, signing with Rick Kurtzman. She is managed by Jon Rubinstein at Authentic. Actress and TV personality Tamera Mowry is now repped by Ashley Mills. She is managed by Main Title Entertainment. Director Robert Stromberg (Maleficent) has signed with Brian Kend. At WME: Another high-profile partner as departed WME, this time on the motion picture lit side. Chris Donnelly, whose clients included a number of major filmmakers, from Martin Scorsese to Steve Zaillian to Michael Winterbottom, has joined management company LBI Entertainment. LBI, headed up by Rick Yorn, has grown significantly in the past six months. Scorsese has long been an LBI client, which no doubt influenced Donnelly's move. It also makes you wonder if WME's recent acquisition of IMG, a massive company with interests that differ from the traditional Hollywood agency, has affected these decisions. We will be tracking which of Donnelly's clients join him in his new role. Oscar nominated screenwriter Bob Nelson (Nebraska) has signed with Jason Spitz. Former chairman of the federal reserve, Ben Bernanke, has signed with Tina Bennett for representation on the book side. TV producer David W. Zucker is now with Paul Haas. At Paradigm: Former CAA agent Emanuel Nunez has joined Paradigm. He will work in film finance there, but also represent a list of artists. The first client to follow him from CAA was Antonio Banderas. Management Notes Managers Antranig Balian, Cameron Kadison and Diane Perez have left Principato Young Entertainment to form Mortar Media. The new management company will have a specialty in non-scripted talent and producers. PR Notes Reality stars Coutrney Kerr and Ludo Lefebvre are new signs for PMK*BNC. Comedian Ahmed Ahmed is now with Persona PR.

Notes From the Rep Biz, Jan. 31, 2014 Agency Notes At WME: Actor Taylor Kitsch, who has leading man potential and terrible luck at the box office, has left WME. He is managed by Untitled Entertainment, and will presumably land at another major agency very soon. Actor Robbie Amell, whose cousin Stephen just signed with CAA, is now represented by Esther Chang, Brandt Joel and Doug Lucterhand. He is managed by David Eisenberg at Protege Management. Celebrated playwright and filmmaker Kenneth Lonergan has signed with David Karp. John Buzzetti will be his agent for theater. At ICM Partners: Another young star evidently looking for a change, Josh Hutcherson has left ICM Partners. He is managed by Ric Beddingfield. At CAA: Chef, author and culinary TV staple Curtis Stone has signed with Hans Schiff. He was previously with IMG and WME (even before they were the same company). Music Management Notes Aerosmith frontman and former American Idol judge Steven Tyler has signed with manager Larry Rudolph (Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears). John Mayer has signed with manager Troy Carter (who just recently lost banner client Lady Gaga). PR Notes Actors Aimee Carrero, Billie Piper and Tim Simons, as well as singer/songwriter Sarah McLachlan, are all new signs for ID PR. Actors Lea Michele and Elizabeth Henstridge are new signs for PMK*BNC. Actor Jesse Lukens has signed with Person
